Ph.D. David Eldred Psychotherapist SBAP
Dr. Eldred is a federally certified psychotherapist, licensed by the Department of Health, Canton of Zurich and a member of the Swiss Professional Association of Applied Psychology. He came to Zürich in 1975 and studied psychology with Dr. Marie-Louise von Franz (who worked in collaboration with Prof. Dr. med. Carl Gustav Jung between the years of 1934 – 1961.) He studied at the University of Zurich and concluded his doctorate in analytical psychology at the Union Graduate School of Cincinnati. Between 1979 and 1981 he completed his internship at the Canton Hospital of Lucerne working with terminally ill patients under the supervision of Prof. Dr. med Frank Nager, Director of Medicine. His dissertation The Psychodyanmics of the Dying Process was cited in Dr. von Franz’s book On Dreams and Death (1986).
Dr. Eldred was co-founder of a research project treating children afflicted with cancer and worked in collaboration with the University of Zurich’s Children’s Hospital between 1982 and 1995. In 1993 he was the co-founder of the Marie-Louise von Franz Institute for Studies in Synchronicity in Zurich. He also worked with orphaned children from various war zones from 1990 – 1995 at the Pestalozzi Children’s Village in Trogen, Switzerland at the same time that he worked with adults in private practice. For the past eleven years Dr. Eldred worked at a medical center in Zurich accessing over one thousand adult patients and treating a broad spectrum of disorders. He has completed advanced education and training seminars in EMDR Psychotherapy, Traumatology and Trauma Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Psychotherapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
He is author / co-author or editor / translator of several articles and books and has lectured at the Lucerne Psychiatric Clinic, St. Urban, at the University Children’s Hospital Zürich, at the Swiss Cancer League in Bern, at the Medica Congress in Dusseldorf, and at the Forum Managed Care in Zurich.
