Myasthenia gravis Clinic
This neuromuscular disease leads to fluctuating weakness of muscles and fatigue, caused by circulating antibodies that block or destroy the acetylcholine receptor. Neuromuscular transmission is impaired with the result of weakness. Often double vision, or swallowing problems are the first manifestation of this disease, sometimes life threatening, generalized weakness requires intensive care therapy and ventilation support. Today most of the affected patients are treated with immunosuppressive drugs and are living with few complaints. But this requires long lasting therapy with special expertise. Dr. Scheglmann has 25 years experience in the treatment of myasthenia gravis in cooperation with the german myasthenia society, as former member of the scientific board. The other very rare neuromuscular transmission affecting disease is the Lambert Eaton syndrome, as well treated in our clinic.
